As a result of Dr. Volk being on administrative leave, the District will be implementing the Board’s succession of authority policy. According to this policy, the high school principal is next in line to assume the superintendent’s responsibilities.
Effective immediately, High School Principal Paul Kissell will take on the superintendent’s duties that require urgent attention. This arrangement will remain in place until the Board formally appoints an acting superintendent to oversee all responsibilities.
Thank you for your understanding and patience during this transition.

💙 Hey Wildcat Families! 💙
Did you know it’s National School Bus Safety Week? 🚌
Here are a few fast facts about the big yellow buses that keep our Wildcats rolling safely every day:
✅ School buses are the most regulated vehicles on the road, built under dozens of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) for rollover protection, crash strength, and seating safety.
✅ More than 223,000 Iowa students ride over 8,500 buses to and from school each day!
✅ Iowa law requires lap-shoulder seat belts on all new school buses ordered after October 2, 2019.
✅ Each Iowa school bus undergoes two required safety inspections per year, checking brakes, lights, tires, and emergency exits, with compliance rates near 98% statewide.
✅ The greatest danger isn’t the ride , it’s when the bus is stopped for loading or unloading. Please stay alert in school zones and near bus stops.
🛑 See a bus driver this week?
Give them a smile, wave, or “thank you!" They’re out there every day hauling our most precious cargo.
A big shoutout to our amazing Columbus bus drivers and Transportation Director! You are the first and last people our students see each day, and you play such a vital role in keeping everyone safe. It takes an incredible team to keep Columbus moving in the right direction and we appreciate you! 💙🐾
